The pictures to the left show burner flames of both fuel oil and natural gas. Natural gas has a more consistent flame and needs less oxygen to burn than fuel oil. Hence, natural gas is significantly more efficient than fuel oil or diesel. Greater efficiency equals lower energy costs by reducing fuel use and electricity needs.
LNG is clean and energy-dense fuel source that can result in reduced operational and maintenance costs. In fact, the use of natural gas can lead to an operational savings of as much as $1.00 an asphalt ton or equal to $0.30 per gallon (#4 fuel oil gallon equivalent). This savings is the result of natural gas not being impacted by water content and other contaminants challenges associated with fuel oils that can cause soot buildup lowering burner efficiency and increase fuel consumption.
Kinder Morgan is the largest provider of LNG to the Midwest and is connected to four major interstate natural gas pipelines. The company operates two manufacturing plants which provide 24 million LNG gallons of storage capacity; a plentiful supply that eliminates fuel shortage concerns. Kinder Morgan has four truck loading stations operating 24/7 that can load up to 96 trucks each day and four trucks simultaneously.
