The first half of 2024 was full of exciting announcements such as the launch of the Cummins X15N engine and the release of Kinder Morgan RNG’s guide, Driving Sustainability & Growth with RNG. There were also significant regulatory developments, such as states adding Clean Fuel Standards and renewable procurement targets, as well as greater enforcement of landfill methane policies. These milestones, among others, shaped the industry in 2024, setting the stage for further progress in the coming years.
It has also been a pivotal year for Kinder Morgan RNG. Prairie View RNG announced commercial in-service at the beginning of 2024 and progress continues on the Autumn Hills RNG plant. Additionally, Kinder Morgan’s 2023 sustainability report highlighted KMI’s progress on its continued improvement of sustainability programs, including reducing absolute methane emissions by 8% from 2021, having a female and minority participation rate of 35% in leadership training programs in 2023 and improving total gender and minority diversity of the KMI board to 31%, with the addition of Amy Chronis.
As we move forward, we reflect on the RNG industry’s progress:
2024 set a strong foundation for building future success and growth in 2025. With continued innovation and regulatory advancements, we expect to see RNG production and adoption continue to grow. RNG will continue to be a solution for landfills and other sources of methane to use their biogas for good and fuel the demand for sustainable energy, while remaining a turnkey solution for companies, fleets and utilities to reduce emissions.
At Kinder Morgan, our ongoing efforts to expand our RNG portfolio reflect our commitment to sustainability and to helping both landfills and end-users of RNG make a positive impact on the environment. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and are ready to build on this year’s successes in 2025.
