Billion cubic feet a day of
CO2 transport capacity
Kinder Morgan CO2 is a leader in applying advanced technologies for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) with nearly 100 percent of its production associated with its EOR, or tertiary, oil operations. The company holds ownership interest in oil-producing fields located in the Permian Basin of West Texas, including the SACROC unit and the Yates Field. On the EOR production side, we produce over 50,000 barrels of oil per day and approximately 20,000 barrels of natural gas liquids per day, much of which comes from our large SACROC Unit. We use a long-term hedging strategy to mitigate the risk of commodity price exposure and generate more stable prices from our oil production.
Kinder Morgan CO2 is a leader in the production and transportation of CO2 for use in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects in southeastern New Mexico, West Texas and southeastern Utah. We hold ownership interest in several CO2 source fields including the Bravo Dome in New Mexico, and Doe Canyon Deep and the McElmo Dome in southwestern Colorado. The McElmo Dome is one of the largest known pure CO2 source fields in the world, with over 20 trillion cubic feet of CO2 in place. Kinder Morgan CO2 is capable of producing and transporting approximately 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of CO2, making us the largest transporter of CO2 in North America.
We transport approximately 800 million cubic feet per day of CO2 to eastern New Mexico, West Texas and southwestern Utah. The primary market for transportation on our CO2 pipelines is to customers, including ourselves, using CO2 for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in mature oil fields. The Cortez Pipeline is our largest CO2 pipeline, stretching 500 miles from southwestern Colorado to Denver city, Texas, and capable of transporting 1.5 billion cubic feet per day. In addition to CO2 pipelines, we own the Kinder Morgan Wink Pipeline system. The Wink Pipeline is a 450-mile Texas intrastate crude oil pipeline system that allows us to better manage crude oil deliveries from our oil field interests in West Texas. It runs from our SACROC unit in Scurry County, Texas and McCamey, Texas, to a terminal in Wink, Texas and a refinery in El Paso, Texas.
